One in 10 Aussies won’t let their dog see them in the nude

It’s no question that Australians love our dogs.
We spoil them with treats and even let them sleep in our beds but for some Aussies there’s one boundary they won’t cross.
According to Scratch’s 2024 Great Australian Dog Survey, one in 10 Aussies will not let their dog see them naked.

Perhaps because it’s simply too awkward to have your furry friend watching on as they hop out of the shower or get dressed for the day.
But for the other nine out of 10 Aussie dog owners surveyed this isn’t an issue. Apparently 89 per cent of Aussie dog owners are perfectly fine with baring all in front of their pooches.
It seems this vulnerability extends both ways for some dog owners, with 59 per cent admitting that they will maintain eye contact with their pooch while he or she is pooping.

The annual survey conducted by the Aussie dog food company surveyed more than 3,000 dog owners across the country about their attitudes towards man’s best friend.
“A lot has changed in Australia since our last Great Aussie Dog Survey, so we couldn’t wait to follow up and find out how the lives of Aussie dogs have changed. And by the sounds of it, it’s a dog’s world and we’re just living in it!” said Scratch co-founder and CEO Mike Halligan.
Aside from our attitudes towards going au naturel in front of our pets, and vice versa, the survey revealed some other interesting insights.

It would seem having a dog really is good for the soul with 87 per cent of dog owners saying they feel “healthier for having a dog”.
This strong connection between dog owners and their dogs also means that most Australian dog owners (75 per cent) will let their dog sleep in their bed, and only 4 per cent of dogs sleep outside these days.
Attitudes toward dogs also seem to be shifting with many dog owners expressing they believe their dogs should have more freedoms.
Seventy per cent of the survey respondents believe that “dogs should be allowed inside cafes and pubs” while 74 per cent believe that dogs should be allowed to travel on airplanes.

This bond between human and dog isn’t coming cheap though. Thirteen per cent of respondents said they would spend more than $4,000 on their dog in a year. While only 18 per cent said they spent less than $1,250 in a year. That’s a lot of puppuccinos!
As for which pups are getting the most love across the country, some are more popular than others.
According to the survey results, Australia’s most popular dog breed is a Cavoodle closely followed by border collies and Labrador Retrievers. In fourth place is the loveable golden retriever and in fifth place it’s close cousin the goldendoodle.
